Olympia Search and Rescue Team (OSAR)
was formed in 1963 and was incorporated in November of 1964. OSAR
remains to be the oldest Search and Rescue team serving all of Thurston
county. Originally all equipment had to be stored at various members'
homes. However, in 1981 the team was able to raise enough money through
recycling, garage sales and vaudeville shows to buy two acres of land at
9111 Yelm Hwy. SE and to construct a basic one room with a large attached
garage building. This building is where we now hold all of our meetings
and most of our training as well as store our equipment and our communications
van.
OSAR is a non-profit organization
made up of all volunteers, who willingly give their time and efforts to
keep up with updated and ongoing training. We have many members from
many walks of life: homemakers, teachers, college students, people
from various business and industries as well as military personnel.
OSAR is made up of a vast majority of people, male and female, 18 years
old up too....well we wouldn't want to embarrass anyone on the internet
with their age :-) ! However, no one is too old for our
team.
If you want to learn: leadership
